Why should you count your baby's kicks?

Counting your baby's kicks is very important because it's a way to track the baby's well-being before birth. A change in movement in the third trimester is often the earliest sign of distress in a baby. When familiarizing your baby's movements and habits, you can create a pattern and better sense when something might be off. Therefore, kick counting is easy. In addition, you can do it all independently to help keep your baby safe. Use this app to help keep track of your baby's movements!

How often should your baby move?

You should feel no set number of movements each day because every baby is unique and different. It is not the number of kicks you feel each day, but the important thing is getting to know your baby's usual movements daily. How to count your baby's movements is written below.

How to count your baby's kicks

  • Starting at week 28, count your baby's movements every day, preferably at the same time.

  • Sit with your feet up, or lie on your side. Count each baby's movement by pressing the foot on our app until you reach 10 movements. The app will time how long time it takes.

  • Save your kick counting session in the app; after a few days, you will see what is typical for your baby's habits and movements.

  • If you see any significant deviations from the pattern, it is important to take action and call your provider because it could be a sign of potential problems.

  • Remember to count every day! It could be potentially safe for your baby.

When should I contact my healthcare provider?

  • Call your provider if your baby has a change in movement patterns.

  • When in doubt, do not hesitate to call your provider! It is their job to take care of you and your baby.

  • Do not wait for significant changes in your baby's movement or no movement at all.
