Headache is a symptom that is very common and frequent during pregnancy. Headaches during a pregnancy are usually not due to anything to do with the pregnancy itself but instead occur due to stress, lack of fluid intake, or sore muscles in the neck.
If you are at the beginning of your pregnancy, the cause of the headache may be a sudden increase in hormones.
Pregnant women get dehydrated faster
When you are pregnant, it is essential to be aware of how much fluid you drink during the day, as the body needs more of it. Therefore, make it a habit to drink a glass of water when you wake up and once before going to bed and drink regularly during the day. An always-filled water bottle or a cold jug of water in the refrigerator can help you get enough fluids.
It is essential to drink enough, as you, as a pregnant woman, will be more easily dehydrated and have an increased tendency to headaches.
Neck pain causes headaches
To avoid headaches during your pregnancy, you must get your sleep. However, it is equally important that you lie down nicely at night and can relax your body so that you do not wake up with tension. Neck pain is one of the common reasons why pregnant women experience problems with headaches. Therefore, prioritize sleeping with a good pillow, as it can make a difference to your headache.
Neck pain and tension in the neck, back, and shoulders can also occur, especially in the last part of pregnancy, where the load on the body is most significant. Here, massage can also be a great help in avoiding tension headaches.
Headache may be a symptom of preeclampsia
If you have had a headache for a long time and have also had symptoms such as nausea, abdominal pain, chest pain, visual disturbances, and rapid weight gain, it may be a sign of preeclampsia. Seek medical attention immediately, as it can be a dangerous situation for you and the unborn child
However, headaches alone are typically due to tensing up, getting too little to drink, or having too much to look after. Therefore, listen to your body and give it what it needs as it provides you pregnancy with fewer headaches.
